....the reality is that this kind of thing must be judged empirically, i.e. through testing. There is a reason that race teams spend lots of money testing, or else they would just buy all of their team thermo books, right? There are so many variables and unknowns, as you just said, that I doubt any theoretical model that can be produced in a short time would be right. Boy oh boy, this post spawned all kinds of big, fancy words.
